Stephanie V. second week response

1) "There are seventy five wars going on in this world right now, and only one of them mat ches the homicide rate in this country,..but i will do something that he and his kind could never do.I will stand up for him in a court of law, and i will do my best"(Vea,63)

2) This is significant because it shows how Jesse doesnt care about what Bernard says about being in an Aryan Nation or about any of his other racial judgements, he only cares about proving this case and trying to "fight" to prove the truth. This is meaningful because this case is looked at by jesse as a war. He talks about  the as if he was trying to connect both things and say that unlike his country, the u.s, he is going to stand up for him in the court of law.

Questions

1Does Jesse care about what race Bernard is ?

2) What do u think the doctor meant when he told Jesse that "Life is not a war"?

  3. Sorry Stephanie but I have a different Url from you I have http://stephanievazquez.blogspot.com/2008/02/dos-amigos-inseparables.something about Cuento. I'll tell Jelani about your Url.

1)In one hand I believe yes Jesse does care about what race Bernard is when he says "but I will do something that he and his kind could never do."(Vea,63)Meaning that Jesse will help a race that has never helped his. But in the other hand i think that if he really did care what race Bernard was then he wouldn't of said "I will stand up for him in a court of law, and i will do my best"(Vea,63)trying to show that he would help Bernard and that race wouldn't matter to him.
    2) On page 63, Doc. Wooden said that "life is not a war" because he was trying to prove that he couldn't be fighting all the time because Life is not all about fighting and being hateful. I know this because Dr. Wooden states "Ten years ago you barely spoke to anyone. You never smiled. You were almost as hateful as Bernard. This is not Vietnam, Jesse. Life is not a war." (Vea, 63)

  4. sorry i had trouble getting to your page. i had a different url from you too..

    1. I dont think that jesse cares too much about Bernards race because if he did then he wouldnt be trying to help him out. Jesse's reputation was on the line but at the same time it was still his choice on whether he wanted to help or not.

2.I think that the doctor was trying to tell Jesse that you cannot be fighting all the time and opposing so many different things. but in a way life could be a war but not always against others, but a war to find self identity and struggle to find a purpose and happiness for oneself. so in a way I agree and Disagree with the idea that "Life is Not A War."
